A smart workplace designed for innovation, collaboration, and wellbeing

The new headquarters of ASTRI (Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute) represents the future of high-tech workplace design. Our approach was to blend cutting-edge functionality with a vibrant, human-centric environment, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of world-class research and innovation teams.

To foster seamless collaboration, labs were strategically located on both the 3rd and 5th floors—facilitating vertical workflow between R&D departments. The “Idea Hub” on the 3rd floor is a dynamic space designed to spark brainstorming and innovation, while a generous infusion of natural daylight on the upper floors uplifts employee wellness and productivity.

One of the key highlights is the Seaview Café, which offers panoramic ocean views and provides a calm space for social interaction, informal meetings, or quiet breaks—supporting a balanced, human-centered work culture.

The main reception area stands as a visual landmark—featuring clean geometry, energetic color accents, and forward-thinking materials. Adjacent to this is the staff library, offering a focused, peaceful environment for learning and concentration.

Open collaboration zones, casual seating pods, and modular meeting rooms are woven throughout the layout to encourage spontaneous dialogue and agile teamwork. These spaces were designed with flexibility in mind, supporting both focused work and community gathering.

A standout feature is the use of custom-designed acoustic panels, forming a waveform ceiling installation above the three large boardrooms. These rooms are equipped with operable walls that allow them to open completely into the reception area—creating a multi-functional event venue perfect for seminars, launches, or internal events.
