“Houses for life” is a residential project for a local big family, which the villas design can be grow with different stage of the family. The design principle addresses authenticity in nature and culture. The planning of the villas draws close reference to the local New Territories village courtyard house typology. The different scales of courtyard: small courtyard between different functions of a single house; big courtyard spaces between houses, is a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional village house form. Intricate transition between interior and exterior and connection between houses of different family members are achieved by the arrangement by a hierarchy of courtyard spaces. The overall composition of villas created delivers the stately atmosphere of traditional village courtyard spaces whilst harmonise modestly with nature at the same time.
