This retirement apartment in Hong Kong was originally a four-bedroom layout. We transformed it into a tailored two-bedroom home with private suites, walk-in closets, and a raised study studio. Thoughtful re-planning of drainage and AC systems allowed us to create a modern luxury residence that balances elegance, privacy, and multi-use function.
Design Concept & Approach
The owners—a retired couple and their daughter—sought a home that would combine privacy, comfort, and long-term functionality. We reimagined the original four en-suite bedroom layout into a two-suite plan, each with a private bathroom and walk-in closet, ensuring a highly personalized sleeping zone for both generations.
Multi-Functional Living & Working Zones
The living room incorporates a raised platform studio separated by a large sliding partition. This serves as both a private study and an occasional guest bedroom, maximizing flexibility while integrating discreet under-platform storage. By zoning the apartment into dedicated sleeping and working areas, the couple enjoys both privacy and connectivity within the same home.
Material Palette & Atmosphere
The interior balances light and dark tones to achieve modern luxury:
- Living & Dining: Light grey marble flooring enhances brightness, paired with dark walnut wood for warmth and depth.
- Open Bar: Clad in white marble, it connects seamlessly to the dining area, creating a refined yet social space.
- Feature Wall: A long wall unifies concealed storage, hidden kitchen entry, and guest toilet access, with gold-textured open shelving adding subtle sophistication.
Smart Ceiling & Spatial Enhancements
To manage utilities and elevate perception of space, the air conditioning units were concealed within a curved ceiling design. This resulted in a clean, continuous surface that visually raises the ceiling height, giving the apartment a grander scale while discreetly housing technical systems.
